FAQ Studio 2

How do I create my first Flyer?
- 1. Download the Studio.
- 2. Read the Introduction Flyer.

How do I send a Flyer?
The easiest way to send a Flyer is by selecting Send from the File menu in the Digiflyer Studio or the Player. After clicking on Send, a new e-mail message will be created in your default e-mail client. Your Flyer will automatically be attached. Fill in the recipient's address in your e-mail message, and send it on its way.

Where can I find Flyer examples?
Our web site contains lots of Flyers. In addition, our web site also offers Flyer templates that you can open in the Studio and use as the basis for your own work.

How do I distribute my Flyers?
There are many ways to distribute Flyers, including e-mail, web, and disk. The easiest and quickest way is to use Send Flyer from the File menu. This allows you to send a Flyer with your default e-mail client.

If you need to distribute your Flyers regularly (for example a newsletter), you can maintain a mailing list. This allows you to send Flyers to mailing list. There is lots of mailing list software available on the web.

If you want to distribute Flyers on request (for example, a product brochure that someone requests by e-mail), take a look at auto-responder software. This allows you to automatically respond to requests.

What is the difference between Flyers, Intelligent Flyers and Runnable Flyers?
Flyers are the smallest files. Ideal for recipients that have the Player already installed. Intelligent Flyers add about 80k to the Flyer. They will connect to Internet and download the latest version of the Player. Once this download has been completed the Player will be installed and ready to use. Runnable Flyers allow the user to send a Flyer with the Player wrapped inside, this means that when the users clicks on this Runnable Flyer it will automatically run the Player with the Flyer file.
What this means is that Intelligent Flyers will connect and download the latest version of the Player before running the Flyer, whereas Runnable Flyers already contain a Player there will be no Internet connection in that case.

What type of graphics can be used in the Flyer?
Major graphics file formats can be imported into the Studio, including: Windows Bitmap (BMP), Fractal Image (FIF), GIF (GIF), Windows Icon (ICO), Amiga (IFF), JPEG (JPG), Microsoft Paint (MSP), PCX, PhotoShop (PSD), Photo CD (PCD), Pict (PCT), Portable Network Graphics (PNG), TARGA (TGA), TIFF (TIF), WMF (WMF) and WPG (WPG).

Which fonts can I use in my Flyers? What if I want to use others?
The only fonts that can be used in a Flyer are the ones that are displayed in the TextBox Properties dialog, you can not include other fonts in a Flyer design. The reason is that it would be too space consuming to include a font in a Flyer, whereas the supported fonts are present on every system. One way around this would be to create bitmaps and then insert the bitmaps into your design.

How do I use animation in my Flyer?
The Studio supports animation through importing animated gifs. Using animated gifs in your Flyers is simple. Adding gifs is the same as importing any other type of graphic. To insert animated gifs you simple use the Import function which is located in the Library menu, alternatively you can click the right mouse button over the graphics panel at the bottom of the window and select the Import function from there. There are lots of animation authoring tools and free animation Clip Art available on the web.

Can a Mac be used to design a Flyer?
At present, there is no Digiflyer Studio for the Mac. We are, however, working on a Mac version of Digiflyer Studio, and expect its release at the end of 1999.

What type of texts can be imported into the Flyer?
The only type of text that can be imported into the Studio is ASCII text. (.txt files)

Which sounds can be used in the Flyer (quality vs. size, mono/stereo)?
Currently only uncompressed WAV files can be imported into the Digiflyer Studio. Quality vs. size is the Flyer designer's decision, but you probably don't want to use huge sound files if you're going to be sending your final design via Internet. However, if you do decide to include large sound files then Digiflyer Studio sound compression will decrease the overall size. Depending on settings, Digiflyer Studio may reduce the sound to mono, and may reduce its sampling rate.

What happens in presentation mode?
A Flyer shown in Presentation mode will be shown on a black background that covers the whole screen. When selecting presentation mode you can either opt for original size or stretch to full screen.

How do I resize a Flyer?
You can resize a Flyer by selecting Size from the Flyer menu. However, it is advised not to change the size too much after the Flyer has already been designed. The Flyer may not resize to your new size if controls have been placed in it and your new size renders these controls invisible.

How do I add pages to my Flyer?
To add a page you simply select New or Insert from the Page menu, alternatively you can move to the last page in your Flyer and then click to advance to the next page, this will display an add page dialogue.

What does the Decor Button do?
The Decor Button toggles Decor mode. The Decor can be thought of as a single page that is always shown behind the other pages, the background. In Decor mode, you can edit only the controls on the Decor page. Switch off Decor mode to go back to foreground page editing.

How do I install the Studio?
The Studio setup will automatically start after you have inserted the Studio CD in the CD-ROM drive (or double-click on setup.exe if you've disabled auto run or if you have downloaded the Studio from the Web). Then follow the onscreen instructions. The installation program will guide you through the setup process.
